Storm damage roof repair in Essex
Essex gets its share of autumn and winter storms — not the extreme weather of the coast, but enough wind to lift ridge tiles, dislodge slates on north-facing pitches, and pull flashing away from chimney stacks and dormer cheeks. When that happens, the priority is the same every time: get up there, see what has happened, and stop water getting in.
We carry out storm damage repairs across all of Essex. In most cases the damage is localised — a handful of tiles, a section of ridge, a piece of flashing — and a repair is straightforward once we know what we are dealing with. We will tell you honestly whether a repair is the right call or whether the roof is in a condition where a more substantial job makes more sense.
If the damage is significant, this work can lead into a broader roof repair or, if the roof is older and has been struggling for a while, a full replacement. Storm damage can sometimes expose chimney problems too — if the stack is affected, our chimney repairs team handles that alongside the main roof work.
We provide written reports with photographs for insurance claims. We deal with homeowners directly and do not work with claims management companies.

What happens when you call us
Call us and describe what has happened
Tell us as much as you can over the phone — where the damage is, whether water is getting in, and whether the damage is to a main roof or an outbuilding. We will ask a few quick questions and tell you when we can get to you.
We come out and assess the damage
We get up on the roof, look at the full extent of the damage, and check for anything that is not visible from the ground. We will also check the surrounding area is secure so nothing else is at risk of coming loose.
Make the roof safe and watertight
If the roof has an open area where water can get in, we make it watertight as the first priority. That might be a temporary patch, a cover, or immediate tile replacement, depending on what is needed and what we have with us.
Written quote for the full repair
Once the roof is safe, we give you a written quote for the permanent repair. This sets out what needs doing, what it will cost, and how long the job will take. No hidden costs, no vague estimates.
Carry out the repair properly
We carry out the repair to a standard that will hold. Tiles are fixed correctly, not just wedged back. Felt is repaired at the edge and overlaps, not just taped over. Ridge mortar is raked out and re-pointed, not just patched on top.
Insurance report if needed
If you need documentation for an insurance claim, we provide a written report setting out the cause of the damage, the extent of it, and what the repair involved. We take photographs throughout for reference.

Why Essex homeowners choose M.W Beal & Son
We tell you what the roof actually needs
Storm damage can look more dramatic than it is — or less. A handful of slipped tiles with the felt intact is a different job to a section where the sarking has been pulled back and the roof space is exposed. We come out, look at both, and tell you honestly what the repair involves and what it will cost.
40+ years on Essex roofs
We know the roof types across Essex well. Victorian slates on terraces in Chelmsford and Brentwood, concrete interlocking tiles on 1970s semis in Basildon, and the older plain clay tiles on farmhouses and period properties across the villages. Each type responds to storm damage differently and each needs a different repair approach.
Written reports for insurance
If you need documentation for a buildings insurance claim, we provide a written report setting out the cause of the damage, what it affected, what the repair involved, and the cost. We take photographs throughout and include them in the report. We deal with homeowners directly — not with loss adjusters or claims companies on your behalf.
The person who quotes does the work
Matt or Joe Beal comes out, assesses the damage, quotes the repair, and carries it out. There is no sales team, no handoff to a subcontractor. When you have storm damage you are dealing with, the last thing you want is to explain the situation to a different person every time.
Fully insured, written quotes
All repair work is fully insured. Every job comes with a written quote before we start, setting out exactly what will be done and what it will cost. The price we quote is the price you pay, unless something unexpected comes to light during the repair and we agree the change with you before proceeding.

What our customers say
5.0 stars from 58 verified Google reviews
“The storm in October took out three ridge tiles at the back of the house and cracked two plain tiles further down. I called Matt and he was out within two days. He replaced the ridge tiles, re-mortared the section, and replaced the cracked tiles while he was there. He also checked the rest of the ridge and found another two that were working loose. Sorted the lot in one visit.”

Ridge tile replacement and storm tile repair
“We had a section of felt that had lifted on our rear slope after high winds. Water was coming in through the roof space and getting onto the ceiling below. Joe came out the next morning, got up on the roof, sorted the felt and put a couple of tiles back that had slipped. He gave us a written summary for the insurance claim as well.”

Storm felt repair and tile relay with insurance report
“A tree branch came down in the garden and caught the edge of our flat roof extension. Joe came out, patched the membrane where it had been punctured, replaced a section of the timber at the edge that had been knocked, and reflashed where the flashing had been pulled away from the wall. Good job, done quickly, and he left the site tidy.”
